EFFECT OF VIOLENCE

We must organize a presentation for Listening and Speaking Skills and my topic is ”watching TV violence can be harmful to the mental health of children”. Television can have an influence in value systems and in our behaviour. Unfortunately much of our television program contains violent. On the internet I found some interesting and shocking research results, which I would like to share with you.
.

It’s a fact, that children’s television shows contain 20 violent acts each hour. Don’t you think that it is too much? The research shows that these children (who watched aggressive TV shows) think that the world is a dangerous place and think that violence is a way to solve problems.

.

Of course, the entertainment industry guards against these attacks. They say, that there is no proof, that watching aggressive shows have such an effect on children's behaviour. Further they say that millions watched TV violence and didn’t become criminals.

.

Parents try to „save” their children with paying attention to their TV programs or change the channel or turn off the TV.

.

But the real solution would be (I think) to forbid these TV shows or to broadcast it only late at night.

Hi Timi, I totally agree with you..during reading your blog- entry came into my mind that yesterday with one of my workmate I saw the trailer of the new "VUK" so called "A KIS VUK". Well, it's not as much full of violance as the tv movies or for example nowdays tv cartoons, but I was terribly shocked that the original "VUK" was rewritten and reanimated..it's totally strange for me after I saw thousand of times the original version..and to tell the truth this trailer was full of scaring moments, so if I had a child I wouldn't show him this movie for sure..

Hi,

I think that there are some possibilities we can do. Like keep out tv from children's bedroom. When they are young they shouldn't watch any program, they had better play with others and discov erthe world aruond them...

Hello Timi,
It seems to me that television has few benefits for children. Parents should be mindful about the amount of time children spend with television viewing. It is obvious, that violent movies (and video games)have a negative effect on adolescents. It takes time away from their day, which could be spent on more beneficial social activities. If television is their only 'companion' they deprived the
opportinity of learning about people, roles and responsibilities.
