MY FAVOURITE TEACHER

I had Communication Training, and we got the task to observe a lesson of our favourite teacher. She was my private teacher at English, when I was I think 12-13 years old. The atmosphere of her lessons was always pleasant and friendly. It was not a usual lesson; it was rather like talking, sharing experience and exposition in English.

She also teaches in elementary school and I observed an English lesson. I have never seen her teaching a whole class. I was very curious how she can get on with the class. The children worked in small groups. Everyone had a task, but at the end of the task they shared their experiences, emotions, thoughts in connection with the task. The lessons were rather playful, instead of being strict and cramped. I really enjoyed it.

After the lesson, we spoke about her opinion in connection with school, children and education. She gave the answers, I expect to.
I think she inspired me to be a teacher. I would be such a nice and appreciative teacher as she is.

MY FAVOURITE BOOK

No orchids for Miss Blandish

This is the title of my favourite book from James Handley Chase. I really like this book, I read it several times.

.

The story in brief: It’s about the kidnapping of a young heiress Miss Blandish. She was kidnapped by a small gangster group (Riley-Gang) . But they immediately lose her by a larger, better organized gang, led by an aggressive mother (Ma). Her son is Slim, a sadistic, cruel, sexually impotent man. Ma wants a ransom, but Slim wants to keep Miss Blandish to be his slave.
Meanwhile Miss Blandish’s father hires Dave Fenner (an ex-journalist) to rescue his daughter. You can guess the end of the story: Dave Fenner finds Miss Blandish, but she feels she can’t adapt herself again to the life and commits suicide.

.
The story is full of torture, murder, rape, drugs and guns. So if you like crime stories, you should read this book!

WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S

Weekend at Bernie’s

This is a title of a film I watched yesterday. This is an old, but a really good movie. Richard Parker and Larry Wilson are the two main characters and of course, Bernie.

.

Bernie Lomax owns a company, Richard and Larry are his employees. They find out, that someone steals money from the company. They hope for promotion and immediately tell the story to their boss, Bernie. But they didn’t know, that the boss himself steals from his company. Bernie invites Larry and Richard to spend a weekend in his house on the beach. Larry and Richards of course agree.

.

Meantime Bernie asks the mafia boss to kill Larry and Richard, so that nobody gets to know the truth. But when Larry and Richard arrive in Bernie’s house, they find Bernie dead. They don’t know how to deal with the situation, so they try to pretend, that their boss is sill alive. It brings them into several comic situations.

.

I really enjoyed this film and I can recommend it to everyone. And if you are eager to know the end of the story, see the link:

EFFECT OF VIOLENCE

We must organize a presentation for Listening and Speaking Skills and my topic is ”watching TV violence can be harmful to the mental health of children”. Television can have an influence in value systems and in our behaviour. Unfortunately much of our television program contains violent. On the internet I found some interesting and shocking research results, which I would like to share with you.
.

It’s a fact, that children’s television shows contain 20 violent acts each hour. Don’t you think that it is too much? The research shows that these children (who watched aggressive TV shows) think that the world is a dangerous place and think that violence is a way to solve problems.

.

Of course, the entertainment industry guards against these attacks. They say, that there is no proof, that watching aggressive shows have such an effect on children's behaviour. Further they say that millions watched TV violence and didn’t become criminals.

.

Parents try to „save” their children with paying attention to their TV programs or change the channel or turn off the TV.

.

But the real solution would be (I think) to forbid these TV shows or to broadcast it only late at night.
